I had a partner in crime for today’s extremegiving. Melissa Joan Hart and I decided to bring some holiday cheer to our soldiers serving abroad. We both feel blessed to be surrounded by our families at this time of year and wanted to send a little bit of home to those who are away from their families. So, we bought a bunch of soap, movies, Top Ramen, toothbrushes, chewing gum, beef jerky, a soccer ball, football, and other items and sent them off to Soldiers’ Angels.
Founded by Patti Paton-Bader, the mother of two American soldiers, Soldiers’ Angels addresses “military-related needs ranging from deployed support to wounded care, to remembrance of the fallen and a wide variety assistance for military families” (SoldierAngels.org). In 2003 Ms. Paton-Bader’s son had related his concern that some soldiers in his unit weren’t receiving letters and support from home. The formation of Soldier Angels’ soon followed along with thousands of letters and care packages.
It’s impossible to adequately thank these men and women for their service, so all we can hope is that some comforts from home bring a smile to their faces.
